Recycle

CSR is continually striving to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, in particular the amount of energy and water we consume, and the amount of waste and greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) we generate. We measure key environmental performance indicators in Australia and each CSR business has set goals to reduce these indicators progressively over a five year period.

So what’s CSR Roofing doing to lessen its carbon footprint?

Recent implementations and technical advancements have delivered the following environmental improvement initiatives:

  • Use Bio Diesel based mould release agents.
  • Onsite waste water recycling.
  • Use water based coatings instead of solvent based coatings.
  • Low energy manufacturing process resulting in the reduced electrical energy usage.
  • Waste minimization program introduced into the manufacturing process.
  • Product design optimization to minimize raw materials input into the finished product.
  • Reduction in VOC emissions from the manufacturing process.
  • Off site recycling of manufacturing waste streams.
  • On site recycling of manufacturing waste streams.

Concrete and Terracotta Roof Tiles
– A smarter choice for sustainable roofing

Low energy Low embodied energy.
  • Concrete tiles are produced using a low intensity production process when compared to other roofing materials.
  • Terracotta tiles are produced using abundant natural materials which emit negligible pollutants relative to other roofing materials.
  • Both Terracotta and Concrete tiles are easily replaced, can be recycled, are reusable and offer  ‘long life’ performance when considered as part of an overall LCA (life cycle assessment). Other ‘thinner’ roofing materials have higher embodied energy and a lower product life cycle.
Thermal Thermal insulation, reducing energy usage and spend.
  • Tiles have a thermal advantage over other higher conductive roofing materials such as metal. Additionally tiles with a low ‘solar abosorptance’ rating can offer roof air-space temperature reductions of up to 9 degrees.
  • Using Enviroseal foil as part of a complete roofing system can reflect up to 95% of
radiant heat entering the roof space.
  • For the ultimate roofing system that will contribute significantly to reduced carbon
emissions  and energy usage, a combination of Concrete / Terracotta roof tiles, Enviroseal sarking, Gold Batts, Edmonds roof vents and Edmonds ceiling vents should be incorporated in the overall roof design.
Water Tank water safe.
  • Tests run by NATA approved laboratories confirm the suitability of harvesting water runoff from tiled roofs as complying with World Heath Organisation standards for drinking water. However, other factors including atmospheric fallout needs to be considered and the inclusion of a 'first flush' diverter system is recommended. More info >
House Acoustic performance.
  • In locations where significant noise pollution is apparent, eg: aircraft noise or where there are busy roads nearby, tests have confirmed that a tiled roof has a sound reduction potential of 30 decibels, double that of other thinner roofing materials.
